Yeast infections are often caused by the species Candida albicans, although there are a few others that can cause you problems too. Candida albicans prefer the moist and warm parts of your body to proliferate, such as the mouth, genitals, intestines and armpits. Candida species can be transformed between yeasts and fungal forms. The yeast form is spread on the mucous membranes and appears as melted cheese.
The effectiveness of these medications is almost the same, whether you choose the treatment option of 1, 3, 6 or 7 days, so the choice of the duration of the treatment depends on you. But, if you are not sure what is best for you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. You can use these products, whether or not you have your rules. Side effects associated with vaginal products are rare, but may include vaginal irritation, eating or burning, and abdominal pain or cramps.
For these reasons, it is important to consult your doctor or nurse to confirm that you actually have a yeast infection before starting treatment. Treatment may include a pill that you take by mouth or a vaginal treatment. When will I feel better? - Most yeast infections disappear within a few days of starting treatment. However, you may continue to feel flushed and irritated, even after the infection is gone.
Primary care practitioners, including family physicians, internists and paediatricians, can all treat yeast infections. In women, a gynecologist can also treat yeast infections. Even though the signs and symptoms of yeast infection may indicate the cause, itching and vaginal discharge may be caused by other conditions, including bacterial vaginosis and infections. To make the diagnosis more accurately, a sample of the load is tested in the laboratory, either by culture or by direct microscopic examination, to identify yeast organisms and help to eliminate other causes such as bacterial vaginosis or sexually transmitted diseases.
